3 Legged Luck

So it’s midnight, and I’m folding clothes because, as usual, I am mountains behind on the laundry. I keep praying for the laundry fairy to show up and get it all done for me, but the only laundry fairy I can dream of is my sister, and she is facing her 16th brain surgery in two weeks, so I doubt she’s up for conquering my mountain. She does, however, iron so nicely…

Sometimes when I’m climbing the mountain of stinky smelly little boy clothes piled in my laundry room, I catch myself daydreaming about this commercial they had when I was a kid. I think it was ALL detergent, but the clothes flew through the house, into the washer, and came out clean! Why can’t my clothes take flight? I’d love that. Laundry is such my nemesis that the other day my mother posted this on Facebook: Read the rest of this entry

Counting Blessings

Every November it seems that Facebook is lit up with statuses where people are counting their blessings. I must confess, I love it. We all know Facebook is the place where people go to say all the ugly things in these veiled “passive-aggressive” ways that are meant to jab one another constantly. It’s a refreshing change to see people humbled by the listings of their blessings instead.

Yesterday, November 1st, I was thankful for the posts that reminded me that it’s time to stop, and recognize the many ways in which my life is blessed again and again. It can get hard to find the silver linings when you look around at the people you love most and there are divorces, surgeries, economic hardships and losses all around. I am praying for one sister’s spirit, another sister’s health, one sister’s sanity, one sister’s heart, and another sister’s struggle to see how beautiful she is both inside and out, and I wonder is it just me, or do we seem to face more than our share of challenges? Back To Reality!

I can’t believe Spring Break came and went so quickly. It seems like I haven’t even had a chance to take a breath, much less a break, but I survived, and even managed to scrape up a few new stories to tell.  The night before Blondie left, she offered to babysit so Daddy and I could go on a date. Let’s just say it was an EPIC FAIL! We managed to grab a burger, but never made it out dancing. It was rainy, and Daddy didn’t want Blondie up too late, so we drove around the block, and then decided to grab an ice cream. We ordered 2 dipped cones at Dairy Queen, but when the speaker said “that’ll be $6.85, Hubby promptly backed out of the drive thru and headed to McDonald’s. Now, I’m not a fan of McDonald’s, but 2 Sundae’s were only $2.35, so they clearly won us over. At that price, we could have grabbed a little something for the kiddos, but this was supposed to be date night.

Date night is something new to us, I don’t think we ever really dated. We went from saying hello in the Wal-Mart parking lot to living together 4 days later, so we’ll have to work on this. Did I mention that the very next day Hubby ventured out on his own and he ends up on the personal guest list of Billy Gibbons, spending YET ANOTHER NIGHT hanging with the rich and famous while I tend to the zoo? He always has this kind of crazy dumb luck, just never when I’m around. If it weren’t for picture mail, I’m not sure I’d even believe it!
