Going Back

Standard

Well it’s official. Summer is OVER! Today the weather will still be a scorching 100° outside, but the focus has shifted. Instead of getting ready for a picnic or a jump in the pool, we’ll be doing homework and heading out for football practice. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE summer vacation.

I love sleeping in a little later, planting flowers together, having lunch in the park, but let me tell you, having the ZooCrew home all day everyday is a lot of really hard work. My poor refrigerator actually posted it’s own “Thank You” note on the door this morning. It said “Have a great first day of school kids, I will enjoy keeping my doors closed for the next 8 hours.” My front door said “Omgoodness, I won’t be opened 14 times an hour today.” and the cold air added “I might actually be able to stay inside.” Meanwhile the washer and dryer were breathing huge sighs of relief. “They can’t change clothes ten times if they’re at school!”

Personally I’m going to miss the knock-down drag-out wars over whether we are watching Disney Jr or Gone in 60 Seconds. When I get in the car to run to Wal-Mart I won’t be sure how to handle the silence. I’ve grown accustomed to “It’s my turn in the front” or “I promise not to ask for anything if I can go with you” and “MOM! She stole my seatbelt!” Read the rest of this entry

What?? No Wi-fi??

Standard

So the past week or so our internet has been DOWN! The funny thing about cell phones and the internet and all this technology we’ve created is that we have no idea how much we have come to depend on it until it goes down!

lotusEver gone a day without your cell phone and felt completely lost and off-task? I’m that lady from the commercial that say “2006 called and they want their flip phone back!” My phone is so old it was one of the first to have a touch screen, I’m not kidding!

I don’t know why I haven’t upgraded yet. Maybe it’s because my husband and my children keep stealing all the upgrades, but I think it’s partially because I have so much history stored in that phone! I’m sure I can transfer the pictures, but there are messages and notes and memos that I keep in that old thing… not to mention that I have the schedule perfectly set to remind me when to take the princess to dance class or when to take the boys to football practice or which day to pick one up early and which days the other stays late. It rings to tell me to take my medicine, to pick up the kids medicine, to go to the doctor, to hit the parent-teacher conferences, or to pay the electric bill. I’ve spent so much time developing my relationship with these different ringers, it’s just hard to let go…. but now that the kids turned my camera into some obsolete piece of scrap that no longer snaps pictures of them running across the football field, I am seriously considering going to the GALAXY! After a long day of school, iTigers (after school program), Football practice, and cheerleading, what’s left? Making the macaroni and cheese!

Maybe she should be the next Kraft commercial...

Not exactly carb-friendly, but what else can be done in 8 minutes flat?

Where Football Reigns as King

Standard

This is Texas. There are only two things to know about Texas. It’s hot, and football is king.

Now some people will tell you that to appreciate Texas you’ve gotta know the proper use of the word y’all.

y'all

Some people might think it’s important to recognize that Texas is the only state that has the right to become it’s own country.
